Galaxy Marine Services follows strict policies when it comes to safety and security of employees, environmental pollution hazards

Galaxy Marine Services. (the “Company”) is committed through its Environmental Protection Policy (the “Policy”) to continuous efforts in order to improve environmental performance in all areas required towards a cleaner environment. Furthermore, the Company is committed to:

  • Pollution prevention that emphasizes source reduction, including financial and human resources necessary to effectively maintain all onboard systems, equipment and components found onboard as potential waste sources;
    • Continuous reduction of environmental risks;
    • Sharing information on environmental performance with external stakeholders;
    • Ensuring that the Policy is available to the public;
    • Effectively implementing the Company’s enhanced environmental standards and ensuring no deviations from such procedures;
    • Demonstrating zero tolerance for any non-compliance with the Company’s Policy or any applicable rules or regulations;
    The Company’s goal is to achieve ZERO environmental incidents through continuous improvement.
    In order to achieve this goal, the Company will:
    • Comply with all applicable environmental laws, regulations and requirements and apply responsible standards where these do not exist;
    • Respond quickly and effectively to environmental incidents resulting from its operations, in co-operation with industry organizations and authorized government agencies;
    • Assess all identified risks to the environment and establish appropriate safeguards to reduce the risk;
    • Demonstrate concern and respect for the environment, emphasizing every employee’s responsibility in achieving the highest level of environmental performance;
    • Develop and implement appropriate environmental operating practices and training;
    • Undertake appropriate reviews and evaluations of its operations to measure progress and to foster compliance with this Policy;
    • Manage its business with the goal of preventing environmental incidents and of controlling emissions and waste streams;
    • Take appropriate action, including immediate dismissal when appropriate, against any employee who obstructs, hinders or presents false information or makes false statements during any inspection, monitoring, or auditing of Company policies;
    • Prohibit any incentive or bonus programs based on minimizing operational costs associated with the operation, maintenance or repair of machinery space systems, equipment and components, including pollution prevention equipment, to ensure that employees do not seek to avoid such costs and thereby sacrifice environmental compliance.

The Company’s Policy has the full support of the Company’s Senior Management and requires compliance by all Company personnel, both ashore and onboard ships.

To successfully achieve the Company’s objectives set forth above, Galaxy Marine Services has developed and implemented an Environmental Management System.

The Company’s Environmental Protection Policy and its Environmental Management System will be implemented, maintained and communicated to all persons working for, or on behalf of, the Company.

The overall Health and Safety Protection Policy (the “Policy”) of Galaxy Marine Services. (the “Company”) endeavors to deliver services that exceed the requirements and expectations of all parties within the maritime industry and to prevent human injury or loss of life as well as to ensure and promote occupational health and safety on board all Company’s managed vessels.

The above-mentioned Policy shall comply with the laws and regulations of the flag state(s) of the ships under its management as well as with the international regulations and conventions and the relevant standards and guidelines. It also shall comply with the requirements of the International Safety Management Code (the “ISM Code”).

In order to achieve the above-mentioned objectives of the Policy, the Company shall endeavor to:

  • Prevent human injury or loss of life, targeting to zero incidents through continuous improvement;
    • Assess all identified risks to its ship and establish appropriate safeguards;
    • Continuously improve safety management skills of personnel ashore and onboard ships, including preparing for emergencies;
    • Ensure compliance with mandatory rules and regulations;
    • Ensure that applicable codes, guidelines and standards recommended by the regulatory organizations, Flag Administrations, Classification Societies and maritime industry organizations are taken into account;
    • Ensure adherence, at all times, to the documented operating procedures by a system of internal verification of procedures and activities;
    • Maintain a drug free working environment;
    • Ensure that no seafarer will navigate a ship or operate its onboard equipment whilst impaired by drugs or alcohol;
    • Provide adequate resources for attaining the goals;
    • Actively encourage personnel participation in the implementation of the Policy;
    • Provide services that meet or exceed applicable statutory and regulatory requirements;
    • Provide appropriate working environment and accommodation conditions to all seafarers serving onboard;
    • Safeguard the well-being and good health of all seafarers serving onboard;
    • Continuously improve safety management skills and promote safety culture of all personnel ashore and aboard ships;
    • Identify training needs of all personnel ashore and aboard ships in order to effectively and efficiently implement the Policy.

For accomplishing the aforementioned objectives, the Company has developed and established a Safety Management System.
Galaxy Marine Services shall invite and expect all its personnel to actively and consciously participate in the implementation of the Policy and objectives and the unconditional adherence to its operational procedures in order to achieve its targets.
The Company’s Health and Safety Protection Policy and its Safety Management System will be implemented, maintained and communicated to all persons working for, or on behalf of, the Company.

As part of that responsibility, it is your duty to promptly inform the Company of any practice onboard that contradicts, or you suspect to contradict the MARPOL rules, any other regulations or Galaxy Marine Services policies/procedures.

GMS has a team of expert experienced technical staff at its disposal for maintenance for its vessels. resulting in lesser downtime and proper year round maintenance of our vessels

The Company is committed to maintain a safe and healthy working environment, free from the unauthorised use of drugs and alcohol, for all employees.

The Company recognizes that alcohol, drug, or other substance abuse by employees may impair their ability to perform properly and will have serious adverse effects on the safety, efficiency and productivity of other employees and the Company as a whole. The misuse of legitimate drugs, or the use, possession, distribution or sale of illicit or un-prescribed drugs on company business or Company ships, is strictly prohibited and is grounds for termination. Being unfit for work because of use of alcohol or drugs is strictly prohibited and is grounds for termination of employment.

The Company may conduct unannounced searches for alcohol and/or drugs on Company ships. Unannounced periodic or random testing will be conducted when an employee meets any one of the following conditions:

  • either the Individual has had a substance abuse problem
  • or is working in a designated position identified by the Company
  • or in a position where testing is required by law

A confirmed positive test result or refusal to submit to an alcohol or drug test is grounds for disciplinary action, including termination.

Reasons for such testing may include:

  • for cause
  • post-incident
  • pre-employment
  • reasonable suspicion
  • follow-up
  • random types of testing

Contractors sailing as ship’s complement are subject to the provisions of the Company’s Drug & Alcohol Policy and Procedures. Visitors, contractors and vendor’s personnel will be subject to the same standards for search and inspection as the ship’s complement in regard to alcohol, drugs and controlled or illegal substances while on Company ships. Failure to comply with this Policy in this regard may result in removal from the ship and denial of future access.

The Company recognises that safety, environment protection, pollution prevention and efficiency are an integral part of good ship management which can only be a result of a combination of right skills, knowledge and experience ashore and onboard vessels.

In order to accomplish the desired objectives as well as provide and maintain the highest standards of ship management, the company is committed to:

  • Employ staff having adequate qualifications, skills, knowledge and experience to serve in the rank or position they have been selected for.
  • Employ only those seafarers who are mentally and physically sound and medically fit to effectively execute the set objectives of the Company.
  • Inculcate a sense of loyalty and dedication and to encourage a sense of belonging to become long serving employees of the Company.
  • Provide staff ashore and afloat with information and training necessary for them to fully understand the Company’s QHSE System.
  • Ensure that compliance with the QHSE standards is a key ingredient in the identification of training needs and performance reviews of shore and shipboard personnel.

It is the Company’s policy to:

  • Provide a secure working environment, by establishing and maintaining the required security measures to prevent unlawful acts against ships which endanger the safety and security of persons/property on board and the environment.
  • Ensure that the Master, Company Security Officer and the Ship Security Officer are given necessary support to fulfil their duties and responsibilities in accordance with IMO’s draft amendments to SOLAS Chapter XI-2 and the ISPS Code.

The Master has the overriding authority and responsibility to make decisions regarding the security of the ship and to request the assistance of the Company or of any Contracting Government as may be necessary.

All Company employees, ashore and on board ships, are expected to comply with the required procedures within the Ship Security Plan and should be familiar with the relevant security duties required of them and the measures required to protect the ship from any unlawful act.

Complying with and maintaining ship security is a continuous process and as new potential threats are uncovered, additional security procedures and measures shall be devised and implemented.

It is the Company’s Policy to ensure that all shore based and ship based personnel carry out their duties in an ethical and honest manner ensuring that they exhibit the highest standards of integrity and righteousness at all times. The Company is committed to:

  • Ensure that no shore based employee or personnel onboard ships under Management, participates in any incentive or bonus programs based on minimizing operational costs associated with the operation, maintenance, and repair of machinery space systems, equipment, and components without ensuring that efficiency and performance are maintained. The intent of this is to ensure that staff do not avoid such costs and thereby sacrifice required level of compliance.
  • Take appropriate action, up to and including dismissal, against any shore based employee or personnel onboard ships under Management who obstruct, hinder or present false information, or make false statements during any inspection; monitoring or audit carried out by any authority whatsoever.
  • Ensure that NO shore based employee or personnel onboard ships under Management are punished, discriminated against or otherwise suffers negative consequences for reporting violations of QHSE laws, regulations, or policies.
  • Take disciplinary action up to and including dismissal against any shore based employee or personnel onboard ships under Management who depart from specified operating policies and procedures.

Shore based employees and personnel onboard ships under Management may also be personally liable for criminal, civil or administrative penalties as a result of non-compliance.
